High Mast Floodlighting for Sports Stadiums

Stadium lighting isn't one specification — a community ground and a TV-broadcast venue have very different lux, uniformity, and glare requirements, and getting this wrong means expensive rework.

Lux Levels by Use Case

Practice and community-level play typically needs 200–300 lux, while competitive matches without broadcast need 500–750 lux, and TV broadcast-grade matches require 1000+ lux with strict uniformity ratios so the picture doesn't show uneven lighting across the field.

Uniformity and Anti-Glare Optics

Camera-friendly lighting isn't just about brightness — uniformity ratio (the difference between the brightest and dimmest points on the field) and glare rating (GR) both matter for broadcast quality and player visibility, which drives narrower-beam, higher-precision luminaire selection than general area lighting.

Pole Placement Around the Field

Pole positions are planned to avoid shadow zones and camera sightline obstruction, typically at the corners or along specific bays depending on the stadium's design — this is worked out with a photometric simulation before any foundation is cast.

Upgrading Existing Stadium Lighting

Many stadiums built with HPSV floodlighting can be upgraded to LED without changing pole height or position, gaining both energy savings and better broadcast-quality uniformity in the same retrofit.
